Matteo V. Rocco achieved the Ph.D. in Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology in 2015 at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano, Italy. He currently holds a researcher position in the same department, serving as a teacher for courses of basic and advanced engineering thermodynamics.

His research activities lie in the fields of thermodynamics, life cycle assessment, and industrial ecology. His specific interests are focused on modeling and analyzing processes of conversion and use of energy resources through exergy-based methods, energy modeling tools, and environmentally-extended Input-Output analysis. He is the author of more than 20 peer-reviewed journal publications and one book in these research fields, and he currently serves as a reviewer for many international journals.

He was awarded as the best young researcher by the Italian LCA association in 2016, and he is currently LCA expert for the International Electrotechnical Commission and member of the International Input-Output Association (IIOA). He got involved in several research projects for public and private institutions, and among others, he is actively cooperating with the International Energy Agency (IEA)
